Walking Day

I guess we made up for a many hours spent on a plane and train, got up and walked today.  I downloaded a steps counter well into the journey and it showed us covering 12.75 km, so I figure we went well over 15.  It wasn't too hot of a day, and there was a good stiff wind at times.  Both Megan and I had to remove hats at times to keep from losing them.

Anse des Catalans-We'll spend time with water is calmer

We walked past the little beach, Anse des Catalans, that is close to our apartment.  We thought we might spend some time on the beach today, but the water looked pretty rough.  This was confirmed when we checked into the idea of taking a boat out to Chateau D'If, and found that all sailings were off due to rough seas.

The local hop-on, hop-off bus has some pretty rough reviews, so we opted for the more liked Petit Train de Marseille, and rode a route that took us up to some pretty great views from the Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica.

After walking around the grounds we returned to the Old Harbour, and had a lunch of moules et frites with a glass of rosé each.  Rosé is a favourite drink in this region, and there are lots of nice bottles from the Aix-en-Provence region for around 5 euros in the grocery store.  So guess what's fueling this writing session!  We're pretty much dedicated to opening a bottle each evening.  After lunch we walked over to the MuCEM and Fort St-Jean.

We went in to the exhibitions at the Museum.  I started to feel the jet-lag pretty badly, so we walked back around the harbour, and went to shop at a good grocery store we'd seen on the way out.  Then we had a couple of 'pressions' at a small bar at the foot of the hill up to our apartment in order to fortify ourselves for the journey.  The plan tonight is reading, listening to French music videos on the tv and a cheese and fruit dinner with a cold cucumber soup.
